KB30 Online NIR Moisture Meter

Inline NIR Moisture Sensor — World’s Smallest Smart Sensor for Process Lines

Add continuous, real-time moisture monitoring to any production line without rebuilding the system around it. The KB30 is the world’s smallest and lightest inline NIR sensor, and a true smart sensor — calibrations live in the head, so the unit talks directly to your existing PLC or SCADA with no PC, no controller box, and no middleware.

  • Smallest Inline NIR Footprint: 7 kg, compact form factor, mounts in any orientation. Drops into existing lines, retrofits, and tight installations where larger sensors won’t fit.
  • True Smart Sensor: 50 on-board calibrations stored in the head. No PC required for operation — the sensor measures, calculates and outputs values on its own.
  • Direct Plant Integration: 4–20 mA analog plus RS485/RS232 digital outputs feed directly into your PLC, SCADA, DCS or historian. Optional converters for wireless, Ethernet/IP and DeviceNet networks.
  • Non-Contact, Non-Destructive: 100 mm (optimal) focal length from the bottom of the air purge snout. The sensor never touches the product — no contamination, no wear, no cleanup.

Description

Continuous Moisture Monitoring for Any Production Line

Most plants want real-time moisture data on the production floor but cannot justify the engineering project that traditional inline NIR systems require. The KB30 changes that. As the world’s smallest and lightest inline NIR moisture sensor, it fits where other systems cannot — and as a true smart sensor with all calibrations stored on board, it integrates with existing plant infrastructure without a PC, controller box or middleware layer.

Solving Process Monitoring Challenges

  • Retrofit projects stall on space and complexity: Larger inline analyzers need rebuilt frames, dedicated controller cabinets and PC integration. The KB30’s 7 kg compact body mounts directly above conveyors, augers, drop chutes or web lines — in any orientation — with minimal mechanical work.
  • PLC and SCADA integration is treated as an afterthought: The KB30 outputs 4–20 mA analog and RS485/RS232 digital natively, so it talks the language your existing control system already speaks. Optional converters extend that to wireless, Ethernet/IP and DeviceNet networks when required.
  • Spot checks and lab samples cannot keep up with the line: Continuous moisture measurement at 0.2-second refresh means every meter of product is verified, not just the sample pulled at shift change. Out-of-spec excursions trigger alarms or automated process adjustments before product is wasted.
  • Process environments are hard on instruments: The sensor head is dust- and water-resistant aluminum die-cast construction. The integrated air purge snout keeps the optical window clean in dusty environments. Operating range covers 0–30°C without external cooling.

Built for Plant Integration

The KB30 measures continuously across a 33 mm spot at 100 mm (optimal) focal length from the bottom of the air purge snout. The 3-digit LED display provides at-the-sensor confirmation of process values, while all data flows simultaneously to plant control systems through the analog and digital outputs. Kett’s Tracker data collection software is available for engineering analysis, calibration development and historical trending on a connected PC — though no PC is required for normal operation.

Each KB30 ships with Kett’s one-year Total Care warranty on parts and labor and specification compliance. Post-warranty maintenance agreements are available, and Kett offers full calibration development services for new applications.

Need lab-grade verification of your process readings? The KB230 Desktop NIR Moisture Meter uses a rotating turntable to average heterogeneous samples, providing the laboratory reference values your KB30 calibrations are built against.

Need composition measurement on your process line? The KJT700 Online NIR Composition Meter measures moisture, water activity, protein, fat, oil, sugar, solvent, alcohol, coat weight and film thickness simultaneously — same online installation, full multi-component analysis.
