The C300 Rice Whiteness Tester Has Been Replaced
The C300 was a benchmark instrument for measuring rice whiteness, using light reflectance to give millers an indirect read on milling degree. It is no longer manufactured. For current production, the C600 Rice Whiteness Tester is the direct replacement.
What the C300 Did
Built around a tungsten lamp and a single blue filter, the C300 measured the whiteness of rice and displayed the result in about five seconds. It was the rice-industry whiteness standard of its era, valued for repeatable readings and straightforward operation on the bench.
Why the C600 Is the Upgrade
- Lighter and smaller: The C600 is 3 kg lighter and roughly 23.5 cm shorter in depth, freeing bench space.
- Faster reading: Results in under a second versus about five seconds on the C300.
- Blue LED light source: Longer source life, lower power draw, and less heat than the C300’s tungsten lamp.
- Simpler power and setup: Universal 100–240V power with no manual voltage dial to set, and ready to measure about 20 seconds after power-on.
Looking for the current model? The C600 Rice Whiteness Tester delivers the same whiteness measurement with faster readings, lower maintenance, and laboratory-level precision built for the production floor.

We have used these whiteness meters non-stop for almost 30 years. We finally decided it’s time to replace with the C600’s. It is, by far, the most durable piece of lab instrumentation we have.

We have used the C300 rice whiteness meters for almost 30 years. We are finally upgrading to the C600’s. I have to say this is the most durable piece of instrumentation we have in our test labs.
