KB230 Desktop NIR Moisture Meter

Desktop NIR Moisture Meter — Instant, Non-Contact, Non-Destructive

Place your sample, close the cover, and get laboratory-grade moisture readings in seconds. Test results are instant. Even when averaging across a varied sample, the final reading is returned in under 10 seconds. The KB230 uses near-infrared light to replace slow drying ovens, hazardous Karl Fischer reagents, and subjective manual methods with fast, repeatable results.

  • Rotating Turntable Averages the Entire Sample: Built-in rotation eliminates single-spot errors on heterogeneous materials like grains, mixes, and pellets.
  • 50 Stored Calibrations: Switch between products instantly. Password protection prevents unauthorized changes.
  • No Consumables, No Chemicals: NIR light does not alter or destroy the sample. Test and return it to the batch.

Description

Desktop Precision. Laboratory Accuracy. Instant Results

Drying ovens take 20 minutes or more per test. Karl Fischer titration requires expensive reagents, trained operators, and careful chemical handling. The KB230 delivers the same laboratory-grade moisture data in seconds using safe, non-contact near-infrared light — with no consumables, no sample preparation, and no specialized training.

Why Labs and Production Floors Choose NIR

  • Instant ROI: Test results are instant. Even when averaging across a varied sample, the final reading is returned in under 10 seconds. Eliminate bottlenecks caused by slow oven tests, manual titrations, or waiting for lab results before releasing a batch.
  • True Sample Averaging: The built-in rotating turntable measures across the entire sample surface, not just a single spot. This is critical for varied materials like wood chips, cookies, grains, and blended powders where moisture differs within the sample.
  • Non-Destructive Testing: NIR light does not heat, dissolve, or alter the sample. Test it and return it to the batch or use it for additional analysis.
  • Only Measure the Water: Loss on drying tests (ovens and moisture balances) can easily include other volatile components besides water.  Karl Fischer tests can include hydrated molecules which may not be considered water in many cases. Our NIR units only measure H20 (Water).
  • Zero Training Required: Place the sample on the sensor, close the light shield, and read the result. No weighing, no reagent handling, no drying curves to interpret.

How It Works

  1. Place your sample on the rotation table (petri dish, plastic bag, polyethylene sheet, or direct placement).
  2. Measure with safe, non-contact NIR light. The instrument reads near-infrared absorption across multiple wavelengths.
  3. Read moisture content on the organic EL display. Results appear in seconds.

Built for Your Workflow

Store up to 50 product calibrations on board and switch between them with a button press. Connect to a PC via USB or Ethernet for calibration development, data tracking, and analysis using Kett Tracker software, or run standalone on the production floor once calibrations are loaded — no PC connection required for daily measurement. Password protection prevents unauthorized changes to calibration data. An optional thermal printer provides hardcopy records without a PC connection.

Need to measure fat, protein, or other organic components beyond moisture? The KB270 Desktop NIR Composition Meter uses the same platform with expanded multi-component measurement capability.
