LZ990 Integrated Coating Thickness Gauge

Dual-Substrate Coating Gauge — Automatic Detection, One-Piece Design

Measure coatings on steel, aluminum, and other metals with a single handheld gauge. The LZ990 senses the substrate and selects the right measurement method on its own, so there is no probe to swap and no mode to set by hand.

  • Automatic substrate recognition: Reads ferrous and non-ferrous parts without operator input
  • 0 to 2000 um range: Covers thin plating through heavy coatings in one tool
  • Onboard memory and statistics: Stores about 1000 readings with USB and RS-232C output
  • 16 calibration channels: Store setups for repeat jobs, with a lower-limit alarm

One Gauge for Every Substrate: No Probe Swap, No Mode Switch

Coating inspection often means two tools: one for paint and plating on steel, another for coatings on aluminum and other non-ferrous metal. The LZ990 replaces both. It reads the substrate automatically and selects the correct measurement circuit on its own, so a single one-piece gauge handles ferrous and non-ferrous parts as you move down the line.

Solving Everyday Inspection Challenges

  • Mixed substrates on one workflow: Automatic substrate recognition switches between electromagnetic and eddy current measurement with no operator input, so you stop sorting parts by metal type.
  • Curved and edged parts: A spring-loaded probe with edge guides and a V-cut sensor guide seats cleanly on pipes, tubing, and edges where flat-faced gauges struggle.
  • Recordkeeping and traceability: Onboard memory holds roughly 1000 readings, with statistics and lot functions built in, then sends data to a PC over USB or to a printer over RS-232C.
  • Repeat jobs with set tolerances: 16 calibration channels (8 electromagnetic, 8 eddy current) store your setups, and a lower-limit alarm flags any reading that falls short.

Built for the Shop Floor and the Field

The LZ990 measures from 0 to 2000 µm (0 to 80.0 mils) with accuracy of plus or minus 1 um below 50 µm, plus or minus 2% from 50 to 1000 µm, and plus or minus 3% above that. Runs on two AAA batteries with up to 60 hours of battery life, fits the hand for long inspection sessions, and ships with a zero calibration holder, calibration foils, carrying pouch, wrist strap, and manual. Coverage is backed by Kett’s One-Year Total Care warranty on parts and labor, with maintenance agreements available.

Need a printout right at the part? The L500 Coating Thickness Gauge puts an integrated thermal printer in the same handheld body for on-the-spot documentation.

Need interchangeable probes and a larger color display? The L600S Coating Thickness Gauge moves up to a swappable-probe platform for awkward geometry and high-volume work.
