FD660 Compact Moisture Balance

Compact Loss-on-Drying Moisture Balance with Efficient, Long-Life Organic-Carbon Heating

The compact, efficient member of Kett’s loss-on-drying line, built for labs that need defensible moisture results without the capacity or modes of a larger analyzer. Its organic-carbon infrared heater targets the wavelengths water absorbs most strongly for fast drying and long service life, and Kett’s patented auto-taring keeps readings stable through every run.

  • Efficient organic-carbon heating: Targets the 2.5 to 3 µm band where water absorbs most, for fast, moisture-focused drying and roughly four times the heater life of a conventional infrared lamp.
  • Compact and lightweight: The smallest footprint in the line at 3.2 kg, for tight benches and mobile carts.
  • Patented auto-taring: Kett’s internal auto-taring re-zeros the balance during the test, eliminating heat-driven scale drift.
  • Primary-method accuracy: Loss on drying measures mass loss directly; run to completion, the result is definitive and stands up to scrutiny.

The Compact, Efficient Standard for Loss-on-Drying Analysis

Not every lab needs 120-gram capacity or six drying modes, but every lab needs moisture results it can defend. The FD660 delivers loss on drying which is the primary gravimetric reference method that official methods and public regulations are built on.  The FD660 is the smallest, most efficient package in the Kett line. It suits routine QC of foods, grains, chemicals, and most materials containing organic substances.

Solving Critical Laboratory Pain Points

  • Bench space at a premium: At 222 by 360 by 196 mm and 3.2 kg, the FD660 is the most compact balance in the line, fitting tight workspaces and mobile carts where a full-size analyzer will not.
  • Efficient drying with minimal upkeep: The organic-carbon infrared heater concentrates its output in the 2.5 to 3 µm band where water absorbs most strongly, delivering over twice the intensity of a halogen source in that range for fast, moisture-targeted drying. It averages roughly 7,000 hours of measured operating life, about four times that of a comparable conventional infrared lamp, and uses no halides or heavy metals. Actual life varies with use.
  • Stable readings on every run: Kett’s patented auto-taring system re-zeros the balance automatically during the test, eliminating the heat-driven scale drift that affects ordinary balances, and a Pre-Heat cycle brings the chamber to a stable temperature before the first measurement.
  • Defensible, traceable results: Loss on drying measures mass loss directly, so a result run to completion is definitive rather than inferred from a correlation. Selectable wet-base, dry-base, and solid-content readouts cover whatever your specification calls for.

Built for Everyday QC

Operation is direct: set time and temperature, place the sample, close the lid, and press start. Five stored measuring conditions recall the right profile for each material, on-board memory holds 50 results, and RS-232C output sends each result to a PC or thermal printer for your records. Every unit carries Kett’s One-Year Total Care Warranty covering parts, labor, and specification compliance, with Maintenance Agreements available for calibration and ongoing support.

Need more capacity or more drying control? The FD720 Universal Moisture Balance steps up to 120-gram capacity and six drying modes for higher-volume or more varied samples.

Drying samples that scorch before they read dry? The FD800 Dual Control Moisture Balance adds a non-contact sensor that reads the sample surface directly, so heat-sensitive materials dry fast without burning.
