Description
The Disc Turbine in the Blade System
A Rushton-style disc turbine: vertical blades on a disc, for shear work in syrups and creams where a plain turbine loses grip. Heidon’s selection chart places it in the dispersing column for dispersing and emulsifying in medium-viscosity liquids around 10,000 mPa·s. Available in ø40, ø80, ø100, ø120 mm.
Choosing It Over the Alternatives
- Disc-mounted blades: the disc forces flow through the blade tips instead of letting it bypass along the shaft
- Vessel match: above 10,000 mPa·s, choose a blade diameter of at least 60 percent of the vessel diameter; the size steps in this line exist for that rule
- Combination mixing: pair a shear blade with a circulation blade on one shaft when a batch needs both dispersing and turnover
In the Box and On the Shaft
