Description
Diagnosing Moisture That Surface Testers Cannot See
Some moisture problems hide. A leak path traveling through a concrete wall. Trapped moisture under a slab waiting to fail a flooring installation. Water migration around a window header months after the rain stopped. Surface moisture meters read what’s at the surface — they cannot tell you what’s three inches deep inside the wall. The HI800 measures moisture at depth through small drilled access holes, giving restoration contractors, building inspectors, and facility teams a direct reading where the problem actually lives.
Solving Deep-Moisture Diagnostic Challenges
- Leak source diagnosis in concrete and mortar walls: Drill a small hole pattern, insert the brush probes, read moisture at depth. Repeat across the suspected leak path to map where moisture is concentrated and where it isn’t.
- Pre-flooring slab investigation: Surface readings can pass while moisture deeper in the slab is still elevated. The HI800 lets you check both — drilled access points give you a moisture profile from surface to depth before you commit to a flooring installation.
- Post-flood and water-damage assessment: Track drying progress in concrete walls and slabs through a remediation cycle. Same drill points, same probes, same readings over time — you see the dry-down curve, not just a surface number that lies.
- Materials outside the factory calibrations: Count mode reads electric resistance directly (200–1000 range), letting you build a custom calibration curve when paired with a Kett moisture balance reference. Useful for unusual building materials, specialty mortars, or process samples.
Built for Diagnostic Field Work
The HI800 runs on four AA alkaline batteries and weighs 0.8 kg with all accessories. The main unit measures 75 × 140 × 30 mm and fits in one hand; the probe assembly extends on a cable to reach drill points without repositioning the display. The kit includes a 6mm marking plate for spacing the drill pattern correctly — 30mm interval is critical for accuracy. Sensor caps protect the brush probes between uses, and the soft carrying case keeps the kit organized between jobs. Continuous and hold reading modes let you scan a wall systematically or capture a single defensible reading.
Routine non-destructive moisture testing on cured surfaces? The HI520-2 Concrete and Mortar Moisture Tester reads moisture through a sensor placed against the surface — six built-in calibrations, no drilling required, fast for general QC and pre-coating verification work.
