H37 3D Portable Friction Tester

3D Handheld Static Friction Tester — Any Angle, Any Surface, Including Walls, Ceilings, and Cylindrical Products

Measure the static coefficient of friction on surfaces that conventional instruments cannot reach. The internal inclinometer corrects for orientation in real time, so you can test inclined surfaces, vertical walls, overhead ceilings, and curved product like rollers and tubes — without balancing the instrument or pulling samples.

  • Full 360° roll measurement: Test horizontal, inclined, vertical, inverted, and overhead surfaces with automatic orientation correction.
  • Built for curved surfaces: Measure paper-mill rollers, conveyor belts, pipes, tubes, and cylindrical products on the side — no top-dead-center balancing act.
  • Five-second measurement, operator-independent: Voice coil motor applies controlled, repeatable force. Same number from any operator, at any angle.
  • Field-portable with averaging: Battery-powered, lightweight, with multi-reading averaging for heterogeneous surfaces. Take it to the production line, the loading dock, or the customer site.

Description

Static Friction Measurement Where Standard Handhelds Cannot Go

Some of the most important friction measurements happen on surfaces that refuse to lie flat. Paper-mill rollers. Conveyor belts. Pipes and tubes. Vertical wall finishes. Overhead surfaces. Inclined production-line product. Conventional handheld testers — including our own H94 — require a horizontal orientation to deliver an accurate coefficient. The H37 3D Muse removes that limit.

Solving Real Measurement Problems

  • Curved product without the balancing act: Measuring coatings on a roller used to mean perching the instrument on top dead center and hoping for level. The H37 measures on the side of the cylinder at any roll angle. Paper mills, printing operations, conveyor coating QC — all become straightforward.
  • Walls, ceilings, and inclined surfaces in place: Construction materials, architectural finishes, and safety-critical floor and ramp surfaces can be tested where they’re installed. No need to cut samples or fabricate orientation jigs.
  • Real-time orientation correction: An internal inclinometer reads the roll angle and adjusts the force calculation automatically. The result you read is the true coefficient of static friction, corrected for the instrument’s actual position.
  • Operator variability eliminated at any angle: The voice coil motor delivers a controlled, linearly-increasing force regardless of orientation. Two operators, three orientations, one consistent number.

Built for Field and Production Use

Four AA batteries power the instrument; an optional AC adapter is available. The slider is interchangeable — swap to alternate materials when surface texture or contact geometry matters. Optional PC connection kit captures readings directly to a laptop. The instrument auto-powers off after 10 minutes of inactivity to extend battery life. Rugged carrying case, slider holder, and accessories included. Backed by Kett’s Total Care warranty which covers parts, labor and specification compliance.  Post-warranty maintenance agreements available.

Only measuring horizontal surfaces? The H94 Portable Friction Tester delivers the same VCM measurement principle and 0.001 resolution at a lower price point — the right choice when 3D capability is not required.

Need reciprocating wear, scratch hardness, or JIS-standard adhesion testing? The Heidon 14FW Surface Property Tester is the desktop multi-function platform for laboratory-grade surface analysis under controlled load.
