Description
The FM300 is no longer manufactured. Kett continues to support FM300 owners with parts, service, and guidance on current measurement options — see Service and Replacement below.
Trace Moisture Measurement Without Chemical Reagents
The FM300 measures moisture content as low as 2 ppm using a gain-on-drying method: the sample is heated in a sealed atmosphere, released moisture passes through an activated carbon filter, and is captured in a molecular sieve chamber where its weight is measured by an analytical balance. The result is trace-level moisture measurement with no chemical interaction and no reagents.
Solving the Problems of Chemical Titration
- Reagent cost and waste: Karl Fischer titration consumes reagents and generates hazardous chemical waste on every run. The FM300 uses none, eliminating purchase, handling, and disposal costs.
- Interference from other volatiles: The activated carbon filter passes only moisture molecules, so products containing multiple volatiles — plastics, pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, hazardous waste — read moisture and only moisture.
- Operator skill requirements: Titration demands trained chemists. The FM300 requires placing the sample, selecting one of 20 stored drying programs, and pressing start; measurement stops automatically.
- Trace-level demands: With 10 µg mass readability and PID-controlled heating from 70–300°C, the FM300 resolves moisture in materials conventional loss-on-drying instruments cannot measure.
Built for the Trace Moisture Laboratory
The FM300 runs continuously through a measurement, displaying sample mass, elapsed time, measured value, and the live drying curve on its backlit LCD. High-purity nitrogen carrier gas improves accuracy and speeds drying of extremely low moisture samples. RS-232C output connects a printer or PC for records, and every unit shipped with the One Year Total Care Warranty covering parts, labor, and specification compliance.
Service and Replacement
The FM300 is no longer manufactured. It was succeeded by the FM300A, which has also been discontinued, and there is no direct replacement in the current Kett lineup. Kett continues to provide service support for units in the field — contact us to discuss your trace moisture measurement requirements.
Need moisture determination for standard moisture ranges? The FD800 Dual Control Moisture Balance delivers primary-method loss-on-drying measurement for laboratory and production QC, though it does not reach the ppm levels the FM300 was built for.
