LU200 Ultrasonic Coating Thickness Gauge

Ultrasonic Coating Thickness Gauge — Non-Metallic Substrates, Handheld, Non-Destructive

Measure coatings on resins, polymers, plastics, concrete, and mortar instantly and non-destructively — surfaces where eddy-current and magnetic-induction gauges cannot work. Calibrate against known thicknesses, place the probe on the coating, and read the result on the LCD.

  • Ultrasonic Measurement: Reads coating thickness on non-metallic substrates, and polymer or resin coatings on thin metallic substrates
  • Non-Destructive: Replaces cross-sectional analysis and scratch testing — no sample damage, no lab turnaround
  • Portable: Battery operated with statistics functions and Hi/Lo alarms, for laboratory-quality measurement anywhere

Description

The LU200 is no longer manufactured. See Service and Replacement below for current options.

Coating Thickness Measurement Where Magnetic and Eddy-Current Gauges Cannot Reach

Most coating thickness gauges depend on a metallic substrate beneath the coating. The LU200 does not. Using ultrasonic echo measurement, this handheld gauge reads coatings on resins, polymers, plastics, concrete, and mortar — and polymer or resin coatings on thin metallic substrates — instantly, non-destructively, and accurately.

Solving Non-Metallic Coating Measurement Challenges

  • No Metallic Substrate Required: Ultrasonic echo characteristics, calibrated against known thicknesses, measure the coating directly — no magnetic or conductive base needed
  • No Destructive Testing: Eliminates cross-sectional analysis and scratch testing, so measured parts stay saleable
  • Multi-Layer Capability: Handles multi-layer resins and polymers, paint on polymers, and coatings on organic substrates
  • Statistics Built In: Average, standard deviation, maximum, minimum, and measurement count, with Hi/Lo alarms and RS-232C output for documentation

Service and Replacement

The LU200 is no longer manufactured, and there is no direct replacement for ultrasonic coating measurement on non-metallic substrates in the current Kett lineup. The L500 Coating Thickness Gauge measures coatings on metallic substrates; on a polymer or resin body it can measure only where a metallic substrate can be placed beneath the coating. Contact Kett to discuss whether your application can be supported with current instruments.
